Peter has
over 30 years of experience in transport research, over 20 in
a leadership role. Over that time has been involved in a wide
range of
projects that have included: fleet fuel efficiency, log truck safety,
school bus safety, driver recruitment and retention, driver fatigue,
vehicle roadworthiness, road delineation treatments, the safety and
effectiveness of overtaking lanes, vehicle roadworthiness and operator
safety management systems. He has worked in collaboration
with teams
in the EU, Australia and Canada as well as throughout New Zealand. |

Dr JOHN DE PONT Director

John
has over 30 years experience as a researcher with the last 20 years on
transport issues. His research interests include vehicle-infrastructure
interaction, vehicle dynamics, road roughness, vehicle performance and
safety, transport economics, logistics and sustainability. John
represented New Zealand on OECD scientific expert groups IR2 and IR6
and managed research element 1 of the OECD DIVINE project. He is the
Treasurer and Vice-President for the Pacific region of the International
Forum for Road Transport Technology and is on
the editorial board of the International Journal of Heavy Vehicle
Systems. |

Samuel is
an engineering psychologist with over 20
years experience investigating issues in human factors and applied
experimental psychology. He is an Associate Professor in Psychology at
the University of Waikato. His recent projects include studies on the
distractive effects
of cellphone use, the management of vehicle speeds around curves,
inadvertent speeding and the FRST project on “self explaining
roads”. |

Hamish
has 15 years of research and consultancy experience and specialises in
the areas of ergonomics and human factors – the interaction between
people and their environment or things that people use. Hamish’s
specific areas of transport expertise include safe and user-friendly
road design, school transport, active transport, road marking safety
improvements and the health and fitness of truck drivers. The link
between transport and health is an area of wider interest and Hamish is
one of the founding members of the Urban Health Alliance, a consortium
of transport and health consultants and researchers who provide
evidence and information on issues related to health, transport and
urban form. |
